Appeals
If your trial resulted in a "guilty" verdict, you may feel that you are out of options. Perhaps your attorney informed you that you don't have the legal grounds to seek a criminal appeal, or maybe you have been told that you have exhausted all of your appellate remedies. Elliot R. Zinger, P.C. knows that you may still have options.
Early in his career, Mr. Zinger worked on the appeal in the notorious murder case of People v. Patricia Colombo, decided in the Supreme Court of Illinois circa 1983. The Columbo later argued by then Public Defender James J. Doherty in the Supreme Court of the United States; the legal issue that Zinger developed was the only issue raised by Mr. Doherty in the U.S. Supreme Court). Since that time, Mr. Zinger has litigated approximately 20 criminal and civil appeals during his career; most recently having the DUI conviction in People of the State of Illinois v. Sonia Barrios, 14-3891, overturned by the 1st District Appellate Court in a unanimous decision.
Not every criminal defense attorney has the ability, experience and skill to represent clients in criminal appeals. Our depth of knowledge and experience enables him to analyze clients' cases and identify the most effective course of action, whether that means filing a direct appeal, a post-conviction petition or habeas corpus petition. Perhaps when none of these remedies are available, a governors' pardon or commutation is the best method of overturning your conviction.
